The Sims 5 Isn't Being Developed! Will It Be Sims 4 Forever?

📅 Aug 5, 2025

I've always held out hope that The Sims 5 would be announced by the Sims Team as being in development, or at least announced as having a roadmap or a development plan.

But that hasn't happened and probably won't happen anytime in the next few years and possibly never.

Watch the video where I talk about The Sims 5 not happening...or continue reading below.

While some Simmers are aware of Project Rene and the rumors swirling around what that project is and what it is going to bring to The Sims 4, let's talk about The Sims 5 for a minute.

The Sims 5 has always been a "want" for many Simmers who are tired of the lack of cars, open world, and many other things missing from The Sims 4 that would enhance gameplay.

The Sims 5 Not Happening

But that will continue to be a "want" because The Sims 5 is not a focus of the Sims Team, according to the EA Entertainment President, Laura Miele.

She was asked about all of this and many other things during an interview with Variety recently.

This was one of her responses to a question about ending The Sims 4 and coming out with The Sims 5.

The Sims 5 Not Happening (According EA President)

The EA Entertainment President thinks that Simmers are happy with The Sims 4 and want it to continue forever, apparently.

I know I don't speak for all Simmers, but I bet I speak for a lot when I say that she is very disconnected with the players and what they actually want.

Players have been screaming for cars, open worlds, and many other things that the Sims 4 just can't handle.

In order to get cars and an open world in the Sims 4, the entire game engine would need to be gutted and started fresh (or at least damn near).

If the Sims Team were going to do that, it would make more sense to just create a new game.

It is likely the Sims Team is set on continuing support for the Sims 4 for at least the next couple of years and has no focus on the Sims 5.

There is even talk that the Sims 4 may just be rebranded or the "4" dropped, and then they can just market "The Sims" instead of having to worry about numbered games.

What do you think as a Simmer? Are you happy with this direction?

Let me know in the comments of this YouTube video where I discuss The Sims 5 never happening.
